Richard’s River Camp is one of our favorite camps in the Mara. The camp is set in a private conservancy bordering the Maasai Mara on the Ntiakntiak River which draws in an constant stream of game. Being set in a conservancy means contributing revenue to a conservation area, fewer other travelers and the option to do bush walks and night game drives which are not possible inside the main Mara.

We love the camp’s laid back, relaxed vibe. The decor emphasizes light colors and it feels classy, clean, and summery, while also being functional and comfortable. There are little artistic touches everywhere like beautiful wood carved tables and water bottles in your room with etched glass. There are big pillow chairs and hammocks hanging throughout the camp. All of the tents are spacious and comfortable and the family tent is enormous. The tents have outdoor showers with instant hot water and amazing pressure. The tents are quite spread out and offer lots of privacy. The property is 100% solar powered and we love the garden and curio shop with local, handmade goods.

The service at River Camp is seamless and the management excellent!

Activities at River Camp include day and night game drives and guided bush walks. If you have the time be sure to visit the Mara Elephant Project (MEP) a fascinating organization and one of Richard Robert’s passion-projects. MEP tracks the movements of the elephants and deploys a Rapid Response Unit to respond to conflict situations and poaching alerts.

While Richard’s River Camp might not be a realistic price point for everyone, anyone who goes is sure to have fabulous experience.
